Tensile & Force Testing Systems from Universal Test Machine Co.
Universal Test Machine Co. (UTMC) offers a comprehensive range of tensile and force testing solutions, including bench-top force testers through its partnership with Mark-10. These systems provide a cost-effective entry point for laboratories and manufacturers requiring reliable low- to mid-force testing. For higher capacities, advanced materials characterization, or standards requiring extensometry and closed-loop control, UTMC also supplies full-scale universal testing machines.
Mark-10 force testing systems are capable of executing a wide range of mechanical tests, including tensile, compression, flexural, peel, puncture, shear, and coefficient of friction evaluations. When configured with the appropriate grips and fixtures, these systems can be adapted for both production quality control and research & development environments, offering significant versatility within a compact footprint.
Software Platforms: EasyMESUR vs. IntelliMESUR
UTMC offers two primary control architectures depending on testing complexity and user requirements:
EasyMESUR (Basic Configuration)
EasyMESUR is designed for straightforward quality control applications where speed and simplicity are critical. The system operates directly from an integrated touchpad interface, allowing operators to quickly set up and execute standard pull or compression tests. This configuration minimizes training requirements while maintaining consistent and repeatable results. Systems can be upgraded over time with additional software functionality, preserving long-term flexibility.
IntelliMESUR (Advanced Configuration)
IntelliMESUR provides a more advanced testing environment, with functionality approaching that of traditional universal testing machines. It supports multi-stage test profiles, programmable sequences, and enhanced data acquisition. Operation can be performed via the onboard interface or through full PC control. The modular software structure allows users to select only the features required—avoiding unnecessary cost while maintaining scalability.
System Configuration
1. Test Stand Selection
Test stand capacity should be selected based on the maximum expected load. Standard configurations typically range from 100 lbf to 1,500 lbf. Stroke length is an equally important parameter, particularly for high-elongation materials such as elastomers and films, where extended travel may be required to capture full failure behavior.
2. Software Capabilities
Software selection depends on the required level of control and data analysis. Certain features—such as displacement measurement—are essential for calculating strain-based properties. Additional functions like automatic return-to-home positioning and operator guidance tools improve throughput and repeatability in production environments. UTMC provides application-specific guidance to ensure proper system configuration.
3. Grips & Fixtures
UTMC supplies a complete range of tensile grips and compression fixtures compatible with Mark-10 systems. By integrating the correct fixturing, users can perform a wide variety of standardized and custom tests, including bend, crush, peel, puncture, shear, and tear evaluations. A standardized adapter interface enables rapid fixture changes, allowing a single system to support multiple test methods efficiently.
Purchasing, Calibration & Support
Universal Test Machine Co. provides global sales and support for Mark-10 force testing systems, including installation, calibration, and on-site training. Each system is backed by a standard manufacturer warranty and supported by UTMC’s application engineering team.
While bench-top force testers are more limited than full universal testing machines in terms of capacity and extensometry integration, they are highly effective for controlled, repeatable testing in manufacturing and quality assurance environments.
These systems are designed for ease of use while maintaining measurement integrity. Load is measured through precision load cells and displayed in real time via the integrated interface or PC software. When properly configured, these systems are capable of meeting the requirements of many standardized test methods, including ASTM D412 and ASTM D638.
Load cell selection typically aligns with the maximum capacity of the test stand; however, lower-capacity, higher-resolution load cells can be integrated for improved accuracy in low-force applications.
Adapter Package Integration Advantage
With the Universal Test Machine Co. adapter package, each Mark-10 machine is fully compatible with our complete line of tensile grips and compression fixtures. We also offer installation and on-site training for these machines. If you have any questions about the Mark-10 tensile testers, we can help! Mark-10 test stands enable a scalable and application-focused testing platform at affordable cost. Many of these machines are manufactured as benchtop solutions, opposed from our Galadbini Floorstanding Line.
