ASTM D695 - Compression Testing of Plastic

Compression Platens are used for any type of crushing test. This video shows a plastic cylinder which experiences a compressive failure at around 32kN. The ASTM specification is a little different and does not test to failure, but tests the load at specific deflections of 1%, 5%, 10%, etc. For highly accurate tests, a special compression fixture and an LVDT pressure transducer can be used. Although this is not necessary.
